In signing up for class for this semester, I was really concerned about taking a computer applications class. I thought to myself "I'm terrible at computers, I don't know that much about different computer applications, and I'm supposed to be working with body parts not computers." But in attending a few of the classes, I realized just how helpful computers can be. I learned everything from creating spreadsheets and PowerPoint to creating google docs with live updates. I even learned how to create the very blog that you are reading right now. I believe that a blog is a great way to create discussions. Blogs create a "question and answer" atmosphere that people can post opinions and gain knowledge about any topic that is presented.
Perhaps one of the most interesting things that I learned in this class was the different ways to use google. IGoogle is very interesting in that you can create your own home page with things that interest you. For example local weather, your favorite websites, and also rss feed that automatically update your IGoogle homepage with the latest information concerning your interest. My favorite application learned was the Google Docs. This is the perfect way to professionally collect and document you thoughts. I used this computer application the most throughout class. It was so easy to share information amongst members of my group as well as my professors. I liked how you could copy and past links that were functional as well as the updates of new posts that appeared on my e-mail.
So if computers scare you and you think that they are irrelevant to your major, I say give them a shot. You'll be amazed at how with a little practice, computer applications can make life and school easier.
